Philip Herr is a Hardworking, Motivated, Creative, and Well-rounded individual, seeking too make the world a better place. It is his deepest desire to help solve many of the problems facing the world from starvation, to helping to build thoroughly sustainable and comfortable housing.
I grew up living a typical dairy farming childhood in Pennsylvania. Feeding and milking the cows, going to church, and learning school at home. It was a simple and beautiful upbringing that allowed for a wonderful childhood fostering. This simple fostering, allowed for the capacity to be creative and truly know who I am. I published a children’s book at age 11 to help other children in urban areas understand where the milk in the store originates. I did very well all through school, into high school, as a dual-enrollment college student, and into university. When I started college, I knew that I wanted to design and build new cities for people living in developing countries of the world. I was aware of the conditions that other people were living in, through my visits help communities in Cuba and Haiti. I am now nearly completed with my bachelors degree in civil engineering from Penn State. I am currently almost complete developing a framework for making the world a better place through developing solutions to problems. I am actively planning to live a life entirely pursuing a better life for others and to only do things for myself when they allow me to better help others.
Throughout my life experiences, I have been able to become a well-rounded individual with skills in many fields. Growing up on the family dairy farm, I learned how to handle farm equipment, care for large animals, conduct farm maintenance, and become knowledgeable about farm finances. From my experience writing the book, “Walk a Mile in My Farm Boots” at age 11, I learned how to write, take photos, edit, publish, sell books in-person and online, and speak at schools. Due to my experience working at the furniture store, I became a skilled delivery and sales person. My time on the jobsite enabled me to become a skilled craftsman whether pouring concrete, setting trusses, building window frames, installing doors, installing roofing, building decks, or keeping jobsites organized. During my time in the office of the construction company, I became a self-taught AutoCAD designer and surveyor as well as a skilled project estimator and construction manager. I gained additional skills in project management, creating job proposals, and pricing projects at one of the highest quality and largest construction management companies in the world with projects in Washington D.C. and Baltimore. I am capable of employee management such as hiring and training from my experience at the construction company. I am skilled in designing and problem solving road construction, environmental problems, and structural problems withing the civil engineering field. I am able to learn quickly and efficiently while also assisting others along the learning process. I am skilled in math, physics, and engineering. Due to my desire to be able to help others in an emergency situation, I am also trained as an EMT, with a PA license. I have also taken several business and marketing related classes at college. I am also a skilled traveler from my experiences traveling to Cuba, Haiti, Alaska, and many other destinations within the USA. I am very good with caring for young children and young adults through my volunteering at an after-school program and always seeking to reach out to people everywhere I am. I am a skilled presenter and speaker from my many experiences giving speeches. I am highly likeable, a team player, a good leader, and energetic individual. I am also skilled in a variety of technologies including photography, website creation, book writing, researching, daily task management, and cooking.
